Global Smartphone Growth Sees a Slowing Trend

All good things come to an end. Or at least they slow down a bit over time.

According to the IDC Worldwide QuarterlyMobile Phone Tracker, while smartphone shipments are expected to increase by 11.3% in 2015, that’s down from 27.6% in 2014.

IDC points out two notable milestones in 2015. For one, it will be the first year in which China’s projected smartphone growth at 2.5% will be slower than the worldwide market. Second, Android growth is expected to be slower (8.5% growth projected) than the worldwide market.

Worldwide shipment volumes for Android smartphones are expected to reach 1.9 billion units annually by 2019.

iOS smartphones on the other hand are expected to increase by 23% in 2015 and stay above worldwide market growth rates.

Not to worry however. Growth will continue to be robust in 2015 and beyond, especially in markets such as India.
