WAVE Connected Technology:

Call / Alert Button Service

Leverage in-building cellular DAS infrastructure to implement a robust
Request-for-Assistance solution.

Improve Response Time for Request-for-Assistance Calls

Nextivity’s in‑building cellular and public safety DAS system infrastructure not only ensures reliable radio and mobile phone coverage throughout a facility—it also enables support for IoT‑based call buttons and request-for-assistance devices. This allows the same communications network used for everyday connectivity to serve as a reliable, facility‑wide alert and notification platform for routine help requests.

In many environments – such as retail stores, factories, warehouses, and senior living communities – fast response to non‑emergency situations is essential for safety and security, service quality, efficiency, and customer, employee, or resident satisfaction. Whether notifying staff that help is needed on the sales floor, alerting caregivers that a resident requires assistance, or escalating a situation before it becomes urgent, dependable in‑building connectivity ensures that requests are delivered instantly and accurately to the right personnel. Comprehensive coverage, including location information, enables staff to respond efficiently and appropriately.

The Nextivity Call Button Service is a flexible request‑for‑assistance solution that can:

  • Send real‑time alerts to on‑site staff, security, or management
  • Integrate with existing notification, workflow, or building management systems
  • Enable both wearable and fixed‑location call buttons
  • Eliminate cellular and radio dead zones, ensuring consistent communications across the entire facility

By leveraging proven in‑building wireless infrastructure, organizations can deploy a scalable, non‑emergency assistance solution that enhances responsiveness, operational efficiency, and overall occupant experience.

Call Button System

The Nextivity Call Button Service is deployed as an addition to Nextivity DAS coverage solutions. The system uses our proprietary SMART SERVER ANTENNAs in place of standard server antennas, enabling call button signals to be transmitted reliably through the in‑building network to a notification platform.

An on‑site Edge Server processes call button messages locally, ensuring fast and dependable delivery without recording or storing user data. This architecture supports occupant privacy while providing a secure, infrastructure‑based solution for routine assistance requests across the entire building.

Call Button Use Cases

Call buttons provide a simple, reliable way for people to request assistance exactly where and when it’s needed. Across retail spaces, factories and warehouses, assisted living communities, and in offices, and other spaces, call button solutions improve responsiveness, visibility, and coordination for everyday situations. Whether guiding customers on the sales floor, supporting residents with location‑aware assistance, streamlining industrial workflows, or flagging facility needs in public spaces, call buttons enable faster responses while leveraging existing in‑building wireless infrastructure. The result is safer environments, smoother operations, and a better experience for occupants, staff, and visitors alike.

System Components:

CEL-FI QUATRA 4000c In-Building Coverage System

The capabilities of the QUATRA 4000c include IoT sensing and location capabilities. These capabilities help provide actionable information from inside the building to the emergency management platform.

SHIELD Public Safety ERCES for LMR and FirstNet Connectivity

Nextivity code-compliant, network-safe ERCES support WAVE Edge Services such as gunshot detection and panic buttons, and are a cornerstone of emergency response planning for schools and other public spaces.

SMART SERVER ANTENNA

The Nextivity SMART SERVER ANTENNA is a key component of the call button service. Antenna features include:

  • Ability to detect Nextivity call button signals.
  • Built-in application to identify location of the call button.
  • The ability for multiple antennas to simultaneously detect call button signals, making the system highly accurate.
  • The ability to respond very quickly – only a short message indicating a call signal was detected is sent to the Localization Algorithm.

Edge Server

An Edge Server is deployed at the building site and fully managed by Nextivity as part of the call button service. The Edge Server is pre-loaded with a map of the building(s) and the location of each SMART SERVER ANTENNA.

Edge Server Functions:

  • The Edge Server receives signals from detected call buttons through the SMART SERVER ANTENNA.
  • Inside the Edge Server, our Call Button Application determines the location of the call button signal.
  • The Call Button Service then relays event information to the relevant response team, depending on site requirements.
