The U.S. Coast Guard based in Marina Del Rey, CA, conducts patrols covering a 500 km stretch from Morro Bay to Dana Point, including several offshore islands. To support marine operations and search and rescue missions across this wide area, the team requires reliable cellular coverage to ensure effective broadband communications.
The US Coast Guard conducted coverage tests off the coast of Channel Islands National Park, measuring uplink and downlink performance between a patrol vessel and multiple points along the California shoreline. Results showed that the ship consistently maintained strong, reliable connectivity when using the MegaFi.
Band | DL (Avg) | UL (Avg) |
---|---|---|

B2 | 17.469 | 2.05 |
B12 | 4.141 | 3.694 |
On a 233 mile drive from Del Rio to Fort Stockton, an independent road test compared HPUE to a standard modem using a live network. HPUE technology maintained connectivity across 94% of the route—adding 46 miles of additional connectivity—while reducing “no coverage” areas from 26% with a standard modem to just 6%.
The HPUE modem delivered stronger and more reliable connectivity at greater distances from cell towers. Near a tower, the standard modem (red) and AW HPUE (blue) showed similar uplink speeds, but as the distance increased, the HPUE sustained significantly higher uplink performance.
20% of New York City lacks mobile video coverage due to weak standard wireless signals in challenging environments such as elevators, parking garages, stairwells, and subway tunnels.
On October 17, 2019, Nextivity conducted a comparative RF (radio frequency) test. With HPUE technology, coverage in New York City soared to 98%, virtually eliminating dead zones.
A recent Anza Borrego drive test put the MegaFi 2 HPUE through its paces using Band 14 with a FirstNet SIM. Covering a total distance of 312 km, the route traversed desert terrain marked by rugged hills, canyons, and other geographic barriers that can reduce cellular signals. Despite these challenges, the test highlighted the system’s ability to sustain reliable connectivity across difficult coverage environments, demonstrating the advantages of HPUE technology in remote and demanding landscapes.
