Fiber connectivity add-on from Nextivity recognized as Hot Technology of the Year in the Telecommunications category for tackling cellular coverage issues in large commercial buildings and remote locations
Nextivity announced today that its CEL-FI QUATRA 4000 Fiber Hub has won the Gold Globee in the 2021 IT World Awards, taking home top honours as the Hot Technology of the Year in the Telecommunications category. CEL-FI QUATRA 4000 Fiber Hub adds fiber connectivity to the CEL-FI QUATRA 4000 system and expands cellular coverage into remote locations and significantly larger facilities. Fiber Hub also provides all the benefits and scalability that CEL-FI QUATRA 4000 offers, including performance leadership, ease of install, best value, fastest project timeline, and carrier approval.
CEL-FI QUATRA 4000 is a multi-carrier, hybrid active Distributed Antenna System (DAS) that provides uniform in-building cellular coverage to large commercial buildings. The CEL-FI QUATRA Fiber Hub expands cellular coverage in QUATRA 4000 deployments in enterprise locations by distributing the donor signal via optical fiber from one building or location to the next. With CEL-FI QUATRA Fiber Hub, QUATRA 4000 can be deployed in significantly larger facilities at a fraction of the cost of a traditional DAS. It can be deployed in high rise buildings; in multi-unit campus settings where one building is on the fringe of macro cellular signal coverage and other buildings in the compound receive no outdoor signal at all; and in remote locations where there is no cellular signal, such as a coal mine.
“Traditional DAS solutions are not financially viable for most facilities under a million square feet due to the high upfront costs of equipment, extensive length of installation time and contract negotiations with carriers, and extra operating expenses due to the heat, electrical, and air conditioning loads,” explains Werner Sievers, CEO of Nextivity. “Together, CEL-FI QUATRA Fiber Hub and CEL-FI QUATRA 4000 provide a solution that can boost cellular signals for skyscrapers and multi-building environments without the high cost of a traditional DAS and without having to run fiber throughout every building within a compound, or all the floors of a building. It is rewarding to have this innovation recognized as a Hot Technology for 2021.”
The CEL-FI QUATRA 4000 Fiber Hub uses fiber connectivity from the master Network Unit (NU) of the CEL-FI QUATRA 4000 (the headend of the system). The master NU receives the donor signal off-air from outdoor antennas or from operator small cells and transmits the signal over fiber to the Fiber Hub with up to 100 dB gain and no signal loss. The master NU and the Fiber Hub provide uniform cellular coverage for all major carriers in spaces up to 250,000 square feet per NU/Fiber Hub. The Fiber Hub expands the NU capacity from six to up to 12 Coverage Units (CUs). The Fiber Hub can be installed up to 2 km (1.2 miles) away from the NU to cover large spaces while maintaining the same signal quality throughout the system. Multiple NUs and Fiber Hubs can be installed in a facility. CEL-FI QUATRA products exist in variants across the globe, with fiber extension solutions available for each of them (Q4000 / Q4000i / Q4000e / Q2000 / Q1000).
The Fiber Hub is commissioned and can be managed remotely through the CEL-FI WAVE cloud-based software platform and mobile app, which helps increase deployment efficiency, reduce installation time, and provide better customer support.
