The CEL-FI QUATRA In-building Enterprise Cellular System is designed to provide coverage in enterprise venues ranging from 50,000 sq. ft. to 200,000 sq. ft. Given the area it covers, it is an ideal solution for small and mid-size businesses that are looking for an alternative to consumer-grade solutions that are too limited in their performance, and DAS solutions that are too complex and costly to install.
As a hybrid active DAS solution, we always appreciate the opportunity to showcase implementations that highlight the benefits our technology delivers. This time around, our focus is on 2-1-1 San Diego, a major contact center that provides community members with referrals for utility, housing, food, health and wellness, military and veteran services, among other types of assistance.
While the contact center is powered by its own landlines, it’s also a BYOD (bring your own device) workplace where executives rely on their cell phones throughout the day. When 2-1-1 San Diego moved to its new two-storey, 30,000 sq. ft. office space, some AT&T subscribers began to experience dropped calls. It was important to solve the problem, since subscribers experiencing signal issues weren’t just the executives on staff; they were also part of the tens of thousands of guests hosted each year in the 2-1-1 office by the organization’s co-located partner agencies.
When introduced to CEL-FI QUATRA, the team at 2-1-1 San Diego decided to give it a try. The active DAS hybrid solution consists of one network unit, which is the hub of the system that receives the donor cellular signal; four coverage units, which contain actively powered antennas that transmit the cellular signal throughout the venue to users; and a MIMO panel antenna to enhance the donor signal. The CEL-FI QUATRA system was configured to operate off-air, distributing the external macro network signal throughout the building. A third-party IT provider was brought in to install the category cables between the two floors.
Within hours CEL-FI QUATRA was up and running. The end result was much faster data rates and no dropped calls. In fact, the installation was so successful that two of the coverage units are being deployed in areas of the building that are leased to other tenants. 2-1-1 San Diego is also looking forward to reaping the benefits of Nextivity’s cloud-based CEL-FI WAVE management platform to get real-time insight into its CEL-FI QUATRA deployment.
