Worldwide LTE Deployment Expected to Peak in 2015

For most tech innovations, the momentum has to slow down at some point. It looks like that’s what will happen with LTE after this year. FierceWireless posted this story about a new report from HIS Infonetics that says LTE infrastructure spending on the part of carriers will peak at $23.3 billion in 2015 before declining as the number of rollouts diminish.

As with any statistics it’s all relative. A peak like this simply means the heavy lifting for LTE rollouts will be taking place over 2015 in countries like the U.S., China, Japan, and South Korea, with Europe catching up. Among the projects, you can expect to see some considerable work done on FirstNet’s upgrade to LTE, a market that relies heavily on cellular boosters to get signal strength in hard to reach places.

But rest assured there will plenty of investment in the foreseeable future in other regions, give or take a billion dollars or two.

So this all begs the question, what kind of trajectory can we expect to see when 5G hits its stride?
