CEL-FI QUATRA: A Simple and Easy Way to Solve Enterprise Coverage Problems

Even with the best cellular service, enterprises can still face indoor coverage issues. Building materials may be blocking signals. Or the square footage may simply be too much for conventional approaches. Many of the solutions that do exist are either complex to set up and/or too costly.

Nextivity has developed the perfect solution with CEL-FI QUATRA, an active DAS specifically designed to meet the indoor cellular coverage needs of mid-size and large building environments (up to 200,000 sq. ft. depending on the configuration).

CEL-FI QUATRA can be used to ensure cellular coverage in a wide range of building types. For example, a single QUATRA system can be used to improve cellular coverage within a large warehouse space with a small number of users; or conversely, multiple systems can be configured to serve multiple floors in a densely populated commercial building.

CEL-FI QUATRA is comprised of a Network Unit, which contains the antennas that receive the donor cellular signal; and the Coverage Unit, which contains actively powered antennas that transmit the cellular signal throughout the venue to users.

CEL-FI QUATRA is carrier approved and unconditionally network safe, and can be used off-air to improve cellular reception in spaces up to 50,000 sq. ft. In this configuration, the Network Unit will receive the donor cellular signal off-air from the service provider’s existing macro network.

But if an organization needs coverage in larger areas, up to four QUATRA systems can be connected to a small cell to facilitate a more uniform signal distribution throughout a larger area. This “Supercell” – where the small cell is used as the donor signal – will provide coverage for up to 200,000 sq. ft.

Ease of installation has always been a particular point of pride for us in the development of our product family. While there is some basic Ethernet cabling involved when setting up QUATRA, we’ve made sure to include advanced technology that makes it easy for an organization’s IT team to install.

With a single QUATRA system in an off-air configuration, the Network Unit is simply mounted to capture the off-air signal; and then connected to the four Coverage Units placed in problem areas of the building. The system then configures itself to optimize coverage where the signal is lacking.

When installing multiple systems to create a Supercell, the Network Units are connected to a single small cell and the coverage units (up to 16) are dispersed throughout a building to distribute both capacity and coverage in a consistent manner throughout the venue.
